DESCRIPTION:
Hours of Work: Part time position (up to) 15 hours a week, must be available for weekend and evening hours.
Salary: $12-14 an hour commensurate with experience (plus tips)
Reports to: Cafe Management, Executive Director
General Description:
Assist in the day-to-day operations of The River House cafe by providing excellent customer service, preparing and serving espresso beverages, preparing and serving baked goods, and carrying out opening and closing duties when needed. The Cafe Barista promotes The River House’s program of activities and is guided by The River House mission in everything they do.
Responsibilities:
Front of House and Customer Service
To greet each customer with a smile and maintain a positive attitude throughout each shift, providing excellent customer service and engagement.
Must maintain a friendly, welcoming environment both behind and in front of the cafe counter. Front of house should be a clean and welcoming place for customers to visit.
To have an informed understanding of The River House menu and be able to effectively communicate and sell menu items to customers.
To serve as an ambassador for The River House promoting our mission, activities, and fundraising efforts.
To effectively use the POS system and cash customers out in an accurate and timely fashion.
Kitchen/Espresso Bar
Prepare and serve Espresso Bar orders in a timely manner using proper technique.
Prepare pastry orders when required and assist other cafe staff or volunteers with food orders when needed.
To assist in the weekly cooking, and food prep when required.
To help maintain the cleanliness and organization of our small kitchen - washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, finishing and cleaning up cooking projects, cleaning espresso machine/equipment, as well as helping to maintain the cleanliness of the front of house.
To deliver food or drinks to patrons when their orders are ready.
To update specials menu boards when necessary.
To sell Beer/Wine within the parameters of state regulations and laws.
To promote excellent standards for health and safety in accordance with WV health code.
To follow opening and closing procedures when required.
Other
To have an understanding of The River House arts program and promote and share our weekly/monthly events with customers.
To be an excellent team player and work in a productive manner with all staff and volunteers.
Help to maintain a positive and friendly demeanor behind the cafe counter ensuring positive experiences for both our customers and volunteers.
Any other task that may be relevant to daily operations and is requested by the Cafe Manager or the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Skills:
Must be 18 years or older
Must be excellent at customer service
Must be a good multitasker and be a flexible worker adapting to changes and participation
Must be passionate about good food and drink
Must be able to work under pressure and demonstrate good time-management skills
Must be able to make change and deal with money
Must be self motivated and able to take initiative
Barista experience required
Food handling and customer service experience preferred
Cash register and Square point of sales system experience preferred
Must be able to work weekends
