Doors Open: 5PM Opener - Youth String Musician Ashton: 6PM WVU Student Bluegrass Band: 7PM The WVU Bluegrass and Old-Time Band is the university’s only ensemble dedicated to the performance and promotion of Appalachian musical traditions. Comprised of students from across the university, the band performs at schools and other venues across the Mountain State. Founded in 2014 by Dr. Travis Stimeling, the WVU Bluegrass and Old-Time Bands have performed in nearly half of West Virginia’s fifty-five counties, sharing their love of traditional Appalachian music with public school students and others. The WVU Bluegrass and Old-Time Bands explore the rich traditions of music-making in our region while also forging new pathways within the tradition. After the unfortunate passing of Dr. Travis Stimeling in 2023, Dr. Chris Haddox stepped into the Director position to continue the aspirations that Dr. Stimeling had for the WVU Bluegrass and Old-Time Bands.
