Daniel Kelly II “D.K.” has been sharing his talent with the world since he was 2 years old. His goal is to learn new ways to improve as a percussionist, and to help motivate other musicians to keep pressing forward in pursuing their talents.

Daniel loves to see people of all ages enjoying music and, at the same time, learning through drums. His playing styles include Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Rock, Latin, and even Classical. Daniel is locally known for his different approaches and artistic interpretations to the drum set, such as applying a mix of many different rhythmic styles all at once. Daniel grew up in Hampton, Va where he was first introduced to music by his family. Growing up in church, he was intrigued with his family’s musical talents and at a young age he wanted to learn music as well. At one Sunday service when he was 2 years old, Daniel remembers the instrument that caught his attention was the drum set. That service sparked a fire in his heart to press forward in joining his family in the arts as well as finding his instrument, which wound up being percussion. Since then, Daniel has continued to study more about the art of drums through individual practice sessions, private lessons, music organizations and in school. From elementary school to present, Daniel continues to find more interesting ideas to bring to the stage from the world of drums.

His musical talent has been showcased on both the east and west coast, of the United States, as well as around the world. He has performed with the Shenandoah Conservatory jazz band in the John Moawad Jazz Festival at Central Washington University and Vancouver, BC just to name a few. Daniel is a firm believer in music being about mutual collaboration and development between artists from many different backgrounds. He has also performed on the Christopher K. Morgan and Artists Showcase at the Clarice Performing Arts Center in 2017. In 2014-16 and 2018, he performed in the Shenandoah Summer Musical Theatre Pit Orchestra as a percussionist/drummer. Some shows were the Addams Family, The Wiz, Man of LaMancha, Mary Poppins, The Secret Garden, and City of Angels to list a few. Daniel has also performed with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and The Virginia Symphony, as well as participating in the Guitar Center’s Drum Off Competition 2012. He has also performed with the Virginia Army National Guard band and currently has his own jazz quartet and teaching percussion to many others from all over.
