Chris Haddox will present his on-going research into the rich folk music traditions of the southern West Virginia coalfields, with emphasis on the Logan, Mingo, and Lincoln county areas. The program features stories of tracking down the few folks who are still living and who may have some first-hand knowledge of the performers, videos of his adventures in finding cemeteries where the performers are buried, pictures, and performances on guitar, fiddle, banjo and vocals. The music featured comes from artists who were recorded between the mid-1920s to mid-1940s....some on commercial labels and others who were captured in field recordings on aluminum discs by WVU English professor, Louis Watson Chappell during his travels around West Virginia from 1937-47. A website detailing much of the information from the presentation is found here: https://omekas.lib.wvu.edu/home/s/folkmusic/page/About
