Artist Statement:
I work in clay and I have been using the image of the chrysalis as a departure point for its shape and symbolism. It represents change, possibility, becoming. Chrysalises attach to surfaces, often hanging from a limb, while nature does its magic. The shape worked well with my interest in defying the gravity-based medium of clay and suspending my sculptures in space.
Suspended emotions of frustration, ambiguity, impatience, and fear are what many of us have felt in the last year. But there has also been potential for change or metamorphosis, the process of transforming from one form or way of being to another. -Julie Farrar
