Workshop: Foundation Piecing a Miniature Log Cabin Block by Amy Pabst - 08/08

$45.00

August 8th - 5-8 PM

This workshop is for intermediate- advanced sewers only.

In this class, students will learn the technique of foundation piecing. The miniature Log Cabin blocks will finish at 3” with strips of 1⁄4”. Don’t be intimidated by the small scale; Students always report that it was much easier than they thought it would be. The class also includes information about printers/papers/other specialty materials, and Electric Quilt software. There is also discussion about quilting/finishing techniques that work well with this size of blocks. Class length is approximately 3 hours.

Students must bring the following supplies:

  • Sewing machine

  • Basic sewing supplies

  • Schmetz Microtex needles work well, but any small needle (size 11 or 10 )

  • Lightweight cotton thread that blends with your fabrics (50 weight

  • or finer)

  • 8-10 WOF strips, 1” wide, sorted into lights and darks. Small scale prints, tone on tones, and solids work especially well

  • Think about using a contrasting fabric for the very center of your squares. Bright colors work well here, and only a small amount is needed.

  • Open-toe foot

  • Rotary cutter/ruler

  • Optional: mini iron and pressing mat

NOTE: Foundations will be supplied. The product prefered is Foundation Stuff by George Siciliano, plenty of sample patterns will be provided.
