FolkLife Workshop: Natural Dyes - 07/26
FolkLife Workshop: Natural Dyes - 07/26
Time: 1-3pm
Before the use of present-day clothing manufacturing, many folks made their own clothes for themselves and their families. In this workshop we will focus on dyeing fabrics with natural materials. Many of the plants and fungi in the surrounding fields and meadows are useful dye plants and can provide colorful and light fast results. We will talk about traditional methods as well as more modern methods for dyeing with plants. This will also include a live demonstration and participants will be able to dye a piece of fabric to take home.
Meet the Instructor: Meaghan Thompson-Moore
Meaghan Moore is a forever student of the natural world and has always been fascinated by the history and traditions of the places she has lived. Meaghan is a trained herbalist and together with her husband, owns and operates Blooming Mountains Botanical Sanctuary in Hampshire County, WV. She has been foraging and gardening for most of her life and feels more at home with a crowd of plants, aka the forest, than in a crowd of people. Meaghan loves sharing her knowledge on all things herbalism, gardening, foraging, and mothering with all who will listen. Most of her days are spent on her homestead living close to the natural world, caring for thousands of plants, taking care of goats, chickens, horses, dogs, cats and any other critters in need of love, and raising two slightly feral children.
